Yarraville is a suburb in Melbourne, Australia. It is 23 kilometers southwest of the Melbourne central business district. The suburb has a population of 13,000. It is an outer Melbourne suburb, located in the northern part of the municipality. It has a population of 15,000 residents and is 24 kilometers from Melbourne’s central business district. It is served by the Albanvale railway line and is serviced by two bus routes.

It is 35 km northeast of the Melbourne CBD and 30 km southwest of the Melbourne Airport. Yarraville is the main shopping center of Wyndham and the center of the district’s retail sector.

The Yarraville street numbering system started in the 1920s and was originally used for the streets only in the Yarraville municipality. Suburbs to the south and west saw their streets numbered separately and had different numbering systems. The Riddells Creek and Mooroolbark (now Sutton) areas used the same system, and the Rutherglen and Moe found their streets numbered separately. The present-day system was adopted in the 1970s and is still used today.

Yarraville was the traditional home of the Gundagai Stockmen’s Association (GSA) and the GSA Hall and now houses a museum.

As part of a recently announced development program, the Yarraville Hospital will be building a new $100 million private hospital in the city. The new hospital, expected to be completed by 2022, will be built on a 3.2-hectare site in the inner western suburbs of Melbourne.

An aged, wooded area at the south-eastern end of the Yarraville peninsula has been selected by the Yarraville Council as the site of a new public hospital. The council is under no legal obligation to name the hospital after you or your late wife, as it is unlikely that you will be around to see the opening of the hospital.
